Agen

Agen is a happy thriving town dating back 2,000 years to the Gallo-Roman period. It is the principal town of the Lot et Garonne and its administrative centre. It has benefited commercially from its location on the main route between Bordeaux and Toulouse.

In the middle ages Agen was a border town between the lands of the kings of England and France. It changed hands no less than 11 times and this is reflected in its cultural and architectural diversity.

Today, Agen continues to prosper. A university town, it is considered to be amongst Frances up and coming towns. There is certainly plenty to do. By day you can explore the medieval streets with their numerous fascinating shops selling local specialities, visit the historic covered market with its enticing array of local produce, take in the beautiful museum with its collection of Goya's or simply take a stroll along the Gravier and watch the games of Petanque which usually take place there in fine weather.

During the evening, there is a myriad of reasonably priced restaurants to try out, the theatre with its varied and interesting programme, the many bars and, during the summer, open air events somewhere in town practically every night.
